Storing Large Virtual Disk Images on Volumes Formatted with FAT File System

This article applies to:

Description

Volumes formatted with FAT or FAT32 file system allow storing files with maximum size of up to 4GB (4 gigabytes). To store large virtual disk images on such volumes, Aldenate Secure Disk provides the option to split the virtual disk image into several 4GB files. This allows saving virtual disk images with capacities exceeding 4GB on FAT volumes.

Aldenate Secure Disk splits virtual disk image automatically so you do not have to care whether you are approaching the file system limit on maximum file size.

When you enable the FAT-compatible image option on the New Virtual Disk Image Wizard, your virtual disk image will be saved in several files (i.e. disk.sdi, disk-1.sdi, disk-2.sdi, ...). If you later decide to copy or move your virtual disk image to another location, you will need to copy all these files, otherwise it will be inaccessible.
