Mounting of Large Virtual Disk Image Causes a Delay

This article applies to:

Description

When you mount a large virtual disk image (over 1 TB) with Aldenate Secure Disk, the application reports that the disk has been mounted but the disk is not visible in Windows Explorer. After a delay (from several seconds to a minute) the drive letter assigned to mounted virtual disk image appears in the system.

This issue is caused by the way Windows handle large volumes (disks). When you mount a volume (a virtual disk image may be considered as a single volume) in Windows, the operating system scans its content first to recognize its file system and check whether it is consistent. The scanning process of large volumes takes a long time to complete. That is why the system does not display a new drive letter for mounted virtual disk immediately. The new drive letter appears as soon as Windows finishes consistency checks.
